Little Miss H is now 18 months old and Mr H and I are very excited about involving her in the traditions of Christmas. We wanted to get Little Miss into the festive spirit as soon as December started and so we came up with the idea of a special Advent calendar filled with books and activities. You can read all about our plans here

This is what we got up to last week:

Day one - Help mummy prepare the fruit for the Christmas cake

This mostly involved Little Miss H eating all of the sultanas and raisins.

Day two - Make Christmas cards for the family

I wanted Little Miss H to make these cards herself (if possible). First of all we put a sheet of lining paper down on the bathroom floor and Little Miss covered it with green and red paint. Once this was dried, I cut Christmas tree shapes from her painting and stuck these onto some card. We then went to town with glue and glitter. Little Miss had a great time covering our flat in the sparkly stuff.

Day three - Write letter to Father Christmas

I wrote the actual letter (purely because my hand writing is neater). But Little Miss H decorated the front of the card that we sent to Father Christmas.

Day four - Help mummy to bake the Christmas cake

I am not sure how this year's Christmas cake is going to taste. Little Miss H was very good at helping me spoon ingredients into the bowl. She was also very good at spooning ingredients out of the bowl and onto the work surface and floor.  The cake may now mostly consist of sugar and fruit.

Day five - Decorate the Christmas tree

http://mrshsfavthings.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/a-special-advent-calendar-week-1.html

Mr H took a day off on Friday so that we could buy a tree and put our decorations up. We visited a Christmas tree farm and choose a gorgeous tree.  It is definitely the loveliest Christmas tree Mr H and I have had in our flat.

Little Miss H was very excited looking at all the trees and the Christmas decorations. She was very taken with the tinsel.

In the afternoon, we put some Christmas tunes on, ate mince pies and decorated the tree. Little Miss H desperately wanted her new tinsel on the tree. Eventually, we convinced her that the tinsel would look better around the pictures in her bedroom.

Day six - Toddler Sense Christmas party

Little Miss H attends Toddler Sense every Monday and loves it. We had to take her to the Toddler Sense Christmas party. I am thrilled we went as Little Miss H had a fantastic time (Mr H and I had great fun too). She enjoyed playing on the two bouncy castles, getting lost in a pool of snowballs, riding reindeer in the snow and meeting Rudolph.

Day seven -  Rochester Christmas Dickens Festival

http://mrshsfavthings.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/a-special-advent-calendar-week-1.html

Rochester holds a Dickens festival every Christmas and we go every year. Last year, Little Miss H slept through the whole parade. This year she stayed awake and looked bemused as all the marching bands and Dickens characters wandered past.

I'll be back next week to share with you some more photos from our Christmas activities Advent calendar.

Hugs

PS. Do you do anything similar in the run up to Christmas? Have you put up your Christmas decorations? I would love to hear about your plans for the next few weeks.
