What I am doing now - Meme

The lovely Steph at the Diary of a Midlife Mummy has just tagged me in the "what I am doing now" meme. Steph has been having a rough week as one of her little girls is poorly. Please cheer her up and go and visit her fabulous blog.

What am I doing now?

Reading - I am currently trying to read the second novel in the Thursday Next series; “Lost in a Good Book” by Jasper Fforde. A friend lent me “The Eyre Affair” (the first book in the series). I read that a few months ago and loved it. It is set in a very intriguing alternate history where Thursday Next is a literary detective at the Special Operations government agency. I am really enjoying the sequel but stuggling to find time to read it.

Earlier this week I went to the library to get some books out for Little Miss H. I walked away with 2 huge tomes; “Toddling to Ten: Your Common parenting problems solved” and “What to expect: The Toddler Years”.

These books are huge. I could use them as hand weights. Which makes me think that I may have been overly ambitious when I borrowed them from the library! No doubt they will both be returned unread.

This is disappointing as I have some questions that I need answered. When will Little Miss sleep through the night? When will she stop being a fussy eater and eat anything other than fruit? If anyone can answer these questions in fewer than 800 pages then I would be grateful.

Listening to - LM and I spend a lot of time listening to “Now that’s what I call Disney Princess” and the “Frozen” soundtrack. We also like to listen to her Julia Donaldon audio books over breakfast.

At the moment, I am listening to Arcade Fire, Crooked Fingers, John Grant and the Nashville soundtracks. I am addicted to the programme "Nashville". Season 2 has just finished and I am in mourning. Sob! Listening to the soundtracks on repeat is making the sadness easier to bare.

Laughing at - Mr H and I are currently watching "Modern Family" on Netflix. The other night, I laughed so loudly that I woke the baby. Mummy fail!!!

Swooning over - Deacon Clayborne from "Nashville"!

Be still my beating heart!
He is the perfect man: talented, generous, understanding, sensitive, loving and kind. It doesn’t hurt that he is easy on the eyes. He has inner demons because of his abusive childhood! These demons can be put aside if he just finds the love of a good woman.

Mr H believes that the character was created by a focus group of women in their 30s. I believe that Mr H is jealous.

Planning - How I am going to get everything done on my to-do list before Saturday. This list includes:
  •  Give myself a manicure
  •  Sew the holes in Mr H’s trousers and jacket
  • Clean the flat
  • Sort through Mrs H's box full of miscellaneous crapola
  • Unblock the sink
They need to be done before Saturday as Mr H and I are both out all day and Grandma and Grandpa are babysitting. I’m off for a nice afternoon tea and so would like to have manicured nails. Mr H is off on the stag do and might want to wear his hole-ridden trousers and jacket. The flat is disgusting and I like to keep up the charade with my parents that I am quite a good house wife. I don't think I'm fooling anyone.

Eating lots of - Salad and fruit! I’m trying to slim down for the wedding of the century. You can read all about my battle to get gorgeous in a month in my post The Final Countdown.

Feeling - Content. Little Miss H is asleep. My gorgeous hubby is in the other room. I'm tucked up in bed blogging. Yep, that seems good enough to me!

Discovering - The Pheasant Suites at Balls Farm near Colchester. Mr H and I stayed there last weekend. Little Miss had a weekend with Nanna and Grampy and we spent some time just the two of us. It was bliss.

The Pheasant Suites are the perfect place for a romantic getaway. The owners have thought of everything. There was homemade cake on arrival, a huge bath (big enough for 2), fluffy dressing gowns and comfy slippers, two course breakfasts delivered via a serving hatch, a large bed and our own private little garden.

On the Saturday, we ventured into Colchester and went to visit the castle and the castle museum. I am a museum geek. My years studying Classical Civilisation at university make me particularly partial to a museum which features the Romans. So Colchester Castle ticked all my boxes. It is also a nicely laid out museum with a number of interactive displays and some excellent exhibits.

I am a big kid at heart and I was in my element dressing up as a centurion and trying to race a chariot. I am thrilled to say that I won my chariot race. It was a proud moment in my life.

Wearing - Jeans, t-shirts and sandels are my mummy summer uniform. Sometimes I may even put on a maxi dress.

Cooking - Last night I made tuna fish cakes for Little Miss. She gobbled them up. Success!

She is a fussy eater and would quite happily live on grapes, blueberries, cheese and beetroot. I’m always happy when she eats a food group other than fruit.

Wondering - Whether my delicate sensibilities can handle series 2 of "Hemlock Grove" on Netflix. It is meant to be a gore-fest!

Trying out - Pampers Easy Up Pants. Little Miss hates having her nappy changed and these are a God send. No more having to deal with irritating tabs that are impossible to position properly on a fidgeting toddler. You just pull these nappies up and your away.
That’s what I am up to right now. I am afraid it is not the most exciting or glamorous insight into my life. But it is honest!

Gemma at You’re my Sunshine on a Cloudy Day, Ashley at Whilst You Were Sleeping and Leah at Young Mummy with 2 I would love to hear what you guys are doing now.

Hugs
